Discover what's inside the Evercade The Doom Collection cartridge, including included games, hardware compatibility, and split-screen multiplayer support.
Quick answer
The Evercade The Doom Collection is a must-have cartridge for retro FPS fans, packing the original DOOM, DOOM II, six extra mission packs, and deathmatch levels with split-screen multiplayer on supported Evercade devices.
What's included on the cartridge
This officially licensed native port brings the id Software classics to your Evercade handheld. You get the original DOOM and DOOM II: Hell on Earth, plus six additional mission packs and a dedicated collection of deathmatch-specific levels. All original level content is preserved, making this a comprehensive retro shooter bundle.
Hardware compatibility and multiplayer
The cartridge works with all Evercade devices, but split-screen multiplayer is only available on supported hardware (e.g., VS-R or other TV-out models). If you plan to play with a friend, check that your device supports multiplayer output. The single-player campaign is fully playable on any Evercade system.
Trade-offs to consider
While the collection includes classic DOOM and DOOM II, it does not include later sequels like DOOM 3 or the 2016 reboot. The experience is strictly the original 1990s gameplay, which may feel dated to players accustomed to modern shooters. Additionally, the cartridge lacks any modern quality-of-life features such as widescreen support or enhanced textures.
Decision rules
- Buy if you want authentic classic DOOM on Evercade: This cartridge delivers the original DOOM and DOOM II with all official mission packs and deathmatch levels, faithfully ported for the Evercade platform.
- Buy if you plan to use split-screen multiplayer: The collection supports split-screen multiplayer on compatible Evercade devices (e.g., VS-R). Check your hardware specs before purchasing if multiplayer is a priority. Verify your device supports TV-out or multiplayer mode.
- Skip if you need modern FPS features: The collection stays true to the 1990s original—no widescreen, no enhanced textures, no modern controls. If you prefer updated remakes or later DOOM titles, this cartridge may not satisfy. Consider the Evercade DOOM 64 cartridge if you want a different retro DOOM experience.
