Discover what comes in the Pac-Man Atari 2600+ Anniversary Edition box, its modern features, and whether it's the right retro console for you in 2026.
Quick Answer
The Pac-Man Atari 2600+ Anniversary Edition is a licensed collaboration that combines the classic console with modern conveniences like HDMI output and USB power, and it comes with two Pac-Man games. It's a great pick if you want authentic retro gaming with easy setup on today's TVs.
Why This Edition Matters
The Pac-Man Atari 2600+ Anniversary Edition isn't just a rehash of the original—it's a modernized version of the 2600+ that celebrates Pac-Man's legacy. The collaboration between Bandai Namco and Atari brings a licensed product that feels special for fans, but it also serves as a practical entry point into retro gaming.
Modern Features vs. Original Limitations
Unlike the original Atari 2600, which required RF switches and analog TV connections, this edition includes HDMI output and USB power. That means you can plug it into a modern display without adapters. Multiple screen modes also let you adjust the aspect ratio or add scanlines, giving you control over how authentic the picture looks.
Backwards Compatibility: A Big Selling Point
The cartridge slot is backwards compatible with hundreds of original Atari 2600 and 7800 games. If you already own a collection of cartridges, this console can breathe new life into them. But if you're starting from scratch, you'll need to hunt down games separately—the included two Pac-Man titles won't last you long.
Decision Rules for Buying the Pac-Man Atari 2600+
- If you want plug-and-play on a modern TV: Choose this console because HDMI output and USB power mean no extra adapters or converters are needed.
- If you already own Atari cartridges: The backwards compatibility with 2600 and 7800 games makes this a practical way to play your old collection. Check if your cartridges are in working condition before buying.
- If you're a Pac-Man fan looking for a collector's item: The licensed collaboration with Bandai Namco adds collectible appeal beyond a standard retro console.
- If you expect a large game library out of the box: Be aware that only two Pac-Man games are included; you'll need to buy additional cartridges separately. Budget for extra games if you plan to play more than Pac-Man.
