Decide between PS5 wireless earbuds and over-ear headsets with clear trade-offs. Compare the PULSE Explore earbuds and Nacon Rig 700HS to find your fit.
Quick answer
Choose over-ear for immersive sound and longer battery life; pick earbuds for portability and easy on-the-go use. The Nacon Rig 700HS delivers wireless over-ear comfort, while the PULSE Explore earbuds offer planar magnetic audio in a compact form.
Over-ear headsets: Immersion and battery life
Over-ear headsets like the Nacon Rig 700HS provide a full ear cup that blocks ambient noise naturally, helping you focus on game audio. They typically have larger drivers and longer battery life—the Rig 700HS offers up to 12 hours per charge. The trade-off is bulk: they take up more space in a bag and can feel warm during long sessions.
Earbuds: Portability and convenience
Wireless earbuds such as the PULSE Explore are much smaller and easier to carry. They fit in a pocket and are ideal for quick gaming sessions or travel. The PULSE Explore uses planar magnetic drivers for low-distortion sound, but battery life is typically shorter than over-ear models. They also may not isolate noise as well in loud environments.
Sound quality and microphone differences
Both types can deliver excellent audio, but the design affects microphone options. The Nacon Rig 700HS includes a detachable noise-cancelling microphone, making it better for team chat. The PULSE Explore earbuds do not have a built-in mic, so you'll need to rely on the PS5 controller's mic or a separate accessory for voice communication.
How to decide: PS5 wireless headset or earbuds
- Prioritize battery life and mic?: If you play long sessions and need voice chat, choose an over-ear headset like the Nacon Rig 700HS with its 12-hour battery and detachable noise-cancelling microphone.
- Need portability above all?: If you game on the go or in multiple rooms, the PULSE Explore earbuds are compact and easy to carry, but plan for shorter battery life and no built-in mic.
- Sound detail vs. comfort trade-off?: For rich, low-distortion audio that reveals game details, the PULSE Explore's planar magnetic drivers are a standout. For all-day comfort and passive noise isolation, over-ear headsets are generally more comfortable. Test both form factors if possible—comfort and sound preference are personal.
