Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island (Switch)

I love the roguelike formula here since every run through Serpentcoil Island feels fresh, and the talking ferret Koppa adds some welcome levity between the tough dungeon floors. The game is really challenging, but the pixel art brings back that classic mystery dungeon vibe perfectly.

I was nervous about the permadeath at first, but the rescue mechanic and item storage make each run feel meaningful. The pixel art on Serpentcoil Island is charming, and Koppa the ferret adds a lot of personality.

The roguelike loop is pure crack here—dying on floor 15 stings, but the way items and gear carry over between runs makes every attempt feel meaningful. Koppa’s quips keep the tension light, and the turn-based combat on Serpentcoil Island’s winding paths is exactly the brain-teaser I wanted.
