Why the Water Trap works differently

This limitation makes collecting multiple traps useful if you want to capture every villain in the game.
How to use your Skylanders Trap Team Water Trap
- Insert the Water Trap into the portal: Place the Water Trap into the Traptanium Portal slot until it clicks. The portal will recognize the trap and display the Water element symbol on screen. Make sure the trap is fully seated; a loose connection may not register.
- Weaken a Water-element villain in battle: Fight a Water-element villain until its health bar is low. Do not defeat it completely—the trap only works when the villain is near defeat but still active. If you accidentally defeat the villain, you cannot capture it; restart the encounter.
- Approach and press the action button: Move your Skylander close to the weakened villain and press the on-screen action button (usually Triangle on PlayStation or Y on Xbox). The villain will be pulled into the trap. Stay close enough—if you move too far away, the prompt may disappear.
- Swap the trapped villain into your team: After capturing, remove the Water Trap from the portal and reinsert it. The villain will appear as a playable character in your roster. You can switch to it anytime. You can only have one trapped villain active at a time per trap.
